Blogbahn

*Knock*Knock*

I have good and bad news.

So the bad news is I haven’t updated the blog in over a month and I apologize for the lack of content. The good news is that we have been working harder than ever on the platform and the overall business.

Some updates:

  1. Platform is near SaaS ready levels - instances are automated and Daniel is currently working on putting in the final features like metrics and customizable hierarchy.
  2. Have had the opportunity to talk to some very cool people across the business spectrum - these past weeks we have really drilled into understanding the features needed to aid in the decision making abilities of both groups and manager.
  3. The core team officially crossed a year on May 29th - marking the day we first got together to discuss a crazy concept of democratizing ideas on the level that Wikipedia has achieved for encyclopedias.

What to look out for in the near future:

  1. Our SaaS platform available for public consumption - We are aiming to finalize it end of June and launching it early July.
  2. Rehaul of the IdeaBahn site - the landing page is great and we have receieved plenty of complements but it’s time we start mentioning the details of the platform and display a deeper view of idea management in relation to the crowdsourced context.
  3. Posts recapping our lessons from the past year - It has been truly the greatest learning experience cutting my teeth in the entrepreneurial world and I would certainly like to reflect on it for future growth.

Picking up steam

In the last two weeks we have singularly focused on getting the platform in front of innovative companies and individuals. The result has been positive and helped us quite a bit in defining the packaging of the platform.

Couple key takeaways:

  1. The psychological barrier to use a new platform is really quite great because it adds another layer of action. Therefore, our focus is on making the platform simple and easy to use.
  2. Traditional tools like word documents and powerpoints are key ways that information is transmitted and consumed (hopefully) within large organizations.
  3. The current offerings are not meeting these needs because lack of transparency, number of steps involved and cultural mindset.

Moving forward, IdeaBahn will be at the Web 2.0 Expo next week, along with stops in Palo Alto and perhaps even San Jose.

Prepping for a busy week.

Things are beginning to kick on full cylinders for our small team. Couple memorable recaps from this past week.

  • Hung out with guys and gals at Shoeboxed.com - It was really quite energizing to see another startup at work and an inspiration for us to aspire towards.
  • Went to my first Refresh the Triangle meetup at Ogilvy - Talked to some very cool RoR guys.
  • Met up with a friend from Penn and had dinner with about 30 students who were in town for the Entreprelliance conference - I’m glad that more of these programs are starting up in colleges around the country and really giving students an opportunity to broaden their business perspectives.

Lots of ideas buzzing about and I’ll do a better job of putting them on here!

New User Interface

After receiving good feedback from our friends at Square 1 and McKinney. We are incorporating some of the key responses we’ve been hearing over the last couple weeks.

  1. Quick Entry for ideas
  2. Optimized colors - projectors, different screen warmths tend to affect this
  3. Redesign UI for quick access

All of these things are being packaged in the UI and we are excited to unveil the slick desgin. So thanks to the early testers for the great feedback!

Nice retreat this weekend for the team. Back and energized for another week!

Development Update

Daniel and Pete are hard at work to put the final modules in place for the platform. The base itself works very well and I’ve been using it in as many occassions as possible to test how easy it would be live capture the ideation process. So far the results have been good. But I’m excited to share with guys and gals the platform after the bells and whistles have been added. So sign up for Beta!
